Cry Me a River” stands out for its refreshing blend of genres, where the band’s indie rock roots meet Nina Karle’s reggae influence. The result is an upbeat, summery track that brings a new flavor to Asleep on the Couch’s discography. Nina’s contributions are felt throughout the song, adding her own lyrics and melodies that perfectly complement the thoughtful and reflective tone of the original track.

Jordan Book, a member of Asleep on the Couch, shared the story behind the evolution of “Cry Me a River.” He explained, “We started playing ‘Cry Me a River’ as a cover during local gigs a decade ago, and people loved the fun feeling that reggae brought to this track, giving it a new twist for audiences. Earlier this year, I was going through old sessions and knew that now was the time to release this.”

Book emphasized the importance of Nina Karle’s role in bringing the track to life: “We knew we needed someone with reggae experience to give it more legitimacy. Nina came in and just nailed it, contributing her own lyrics and melodies to give it that summery vibe that we couldn’t quite capture without her. We’re proud of what we’ve done—‘Cry Me a River’ has that perfect summer day feeling to it.”

Working with Nina was a fantastic experience—she brought a fresh perspective to our sound that we’re excited to share with our fans!”
