"Florence" is infused with folk-pop melodies, referencing the “chanson française” and the Italian pop music from the '60s. Produced by Jason Boshoff (Lisa Hannigan, David Gray) and Oscar Garcia Bragado, and recorded at RoomTo Studio in Barcelona during 2023, the song captures the timeless charm and beauty of its namesake city.
The song narrates a magical stroll through the alleys of Florence, surrounded by the city's stunning architecture and seduced by the elusive presence of a woman, perhaps the personification of Florence itself. The lyrics, "You smile then walk away, I won’t ask you to stay," express the fleeting nature of beauty, which cannot be possessed but only admired.
Lines like, "Playing on my guitar, a tune from the old times / In this old town, that I just found, / Renaissance all around," reflect a nostalgic yet fresh perspective on Florence's beauty. The Italian chorus, "Amore lo sai, ho voglia di te ma tu non ci sei," might initially seem like a cheesy love line but actually represents the climax of a desperate, continuous longing for beauty. Without beauty, we are reduced to mere logistics, expressions of a modern world that prioritizes utility over feelings and emotions.
To promote "Florence," Colourshop is embarking on an extraordinary bike tour from Anagni to Barcelona, passing through Florence and other symbolic cities. This journey not only underscores the song's themes but also highlights the beauty of nature, art, and architecture that we are fortunate to witness.
