Since their inception in the late 90s, we've seen SUMO exploring many musical territories: Electro, Soul, Funk, Trip-Hop, Dub... Staying true to their initial spirit, the group, led by brothers Alex (guitar, vocals) and Fred Sumi (bass, production), refuses to be confined to a single musical style and continues their musical journey.
In 2019, the group exiled to Cuba after two previous tours (Habanarte Festival in 2016 and Cubadisco in 2017) that allowed them to forge sincere and lasting friendships. In this new adventure, SUMO expanded the family to become "Los Hermanos del Alma." The new album, Oya, is an Afro-Cuban rock record, a kind of UFO with multiple sounds: Afro-beat voices, Rock-Fusion, Latin-Jazz, Afro-Cuban Soul.
The group surrounded themselves with a tribe of musicians for the creation of this album, which was produced in true immersion in Havana. Fred left the group at the end of 2021 to dedicate himself to his new project, Edkub. The journey of SUMO now continues with a new formation of Latino musicians active on the Francophone and European scenes, such as Francisco "Pancho" Llagostera and Daionys "Jhony" Martínez on vocals, Juan Pablo Cisneros on bass, Ramon Plaza on drums, and Eulogio "Mamby" Arguelles Puey on percussion.
Los Hermanos del Alma is a growing family that continues to expand and evolve, bringing fresh and vibrant sounds to the global music scene. "Tumbakinkin" is a testament to their dynamic and ever-evolving musical journey. Don't miss out on this energetic and uplifting track that promises to brighten your day and get you moving.
